Drake Maye injured, Jacoby Brissett in for Patriots

After taking a hit to the head on the previous drive, Patriots rookie quarterback Drake Maye has gone to the locker room. His return is questionable. In comes veteran Jacoby Brissett, who promptly goes three and out with two short runs and a completion well short of the sticks.

Any hope New England had of producing on offense against the Jets likely goes by the wayside if Maye can't return. New York leads 13-7.

Colts S Nick Cross took a bad angle and whiffed, and then CB Jaylon Jones just couldn't bring Texans RB Joe Mixon down near the goal line. The game is now tied after Mixon scored on a 14-yard run.

Bengals thrive with TE Mike Gesicki

Without Tee Higgins the Bengals are leaning toward their tight ends, specifically Mike Gesicki. Burrow has hit Gesicki four times for 51 yards on the first two drives. Three of those went for third-down conversions, including a miraculous Burrow scramble on third-and-22.

They also schemed up a 28-yard reception for rookie tight end Erick All. This gameplan is similar to what we saw against Kansas City in Week 2 where Burrow set a career high in passing yardage to the tight ends.

Anthony Richardson, Colts ahead in Houston

Colts QB Anthony Richardson was 1-of-7 passing for 12 yards before uncorking that 69-yard TD to Josh Downs. Indy now leads 10-3. Richardson took a lick right before that throw but stood tall as Downs ran down the field wide open. Alec Pierce took out two DBs to free Downs.

Cardinals on the board

Working their way out of a 10-0 hole, the Arizona Cardinals put together a nine-play, 70-yard scoring drive capped by a 6-yard Kyler Murray pass to Michael Wilson in the back of the end zone. The drive, which began late in the first quarter, chewed up 4:48 of clock and pulled Arizona within 10-7 with 11:28 left in the second quarter.

– Dolphins 10, Cardinals 0 –

The Dolphins extended their lead to 10-0 with a 53-yard Jason Sanders field goal with 1:16 left. Miami opened the game by converting their first four third downs for first down, but came up short on the fifth, bringing on the field goal unit.

Sanders entered the game 3-for-5 on Field goals of 50 yards or longer. His long is 56. Tua Tagovailoa is 11-for-12 for 75 yards this first quarter.

Browns ahead early vs. Ravens

That was a 14-play, 81-yard drive for the Browns that just absorbed more than eight minutes. Ravens veteran safety Marcus Williams didn't play a snap on it. Looked like Arthur Maulet saw one or two snaps on third down.

No scores in 2024 for Eagles

It's 7-0 Bengals after one quarter. The Eagles remain scoreless in the first quarter in 2024. This time, the Bengals just chewed up the clock on a 17-play, 70-yard opening touchdown drive that took 10 minutes and four seconds.

The Bengals are smartly dictating their matchups by placing Ja'Marr Chase in different slots along the line of scrimmage. Joe Burrow was 11-of-12 for 60 yards on the opening drive, and the Bengals were 5-of-5 on third downs. On second-and-goal, Chase started out in the backfield, left of Burrow, ran right, and ended up in coverage with edge rusher Nolan Smith. Burrow found Chase open in the end zone for a 2-yard score.

Drake Maye scrambles for score

Well, jeepers, how about that?! On their second possession, Drake Maye leads the Patriots methodically down the field — going 77 yards in 10 plays — and scores the game's opening touchdown, scrambling 17 yards for a score.

So far, Maye is 3-of-4 passing for 23 yards. The New England run game also has been solid, already totaling 49 yards between Maye and back Rhamondre Stevenson. The Pats lead 7-0.

Tua Tagovailoa leads TD drive in return

Tua directs Miami's first game-opening TD drive in return: Dolphins 7, Cardinals 0 – Miami Dolphins quarterback Tua Tagovailoa wasted no time making his presence felt as he returned from a 45-day layoff following the Week 2 concussion that landed him on short-term IR. The quarterback directed a 10-play, 64-yard scoring drive (completing five of six passes for 47 yards) that was capped by a one-yard Raheem Mostert touchdown run with 10:15 left in the first quarter.

That was the first game-opening touchdown drive of the season for the Dolphins, whose offense has struggled mightily without their franchise quarterback.

Bengals' offensive fallout with no Tee Higgins

CINCINNATI — Without Tee Higgins on Sunday against the Eagles, the Bengals offense will be forced to shift into a couple different directions and might be helped out by the style of Eagles defensive coordinator Vic Fangio.

His zone-heavy Cover 3 will allow Joe Burrow to distribute more to other players rather than the focus toward Ja’Marr Chase and Higgins that typically comes from a man-heavy scheme. Missing Higgins limits them no matter who is calling defense across the way, but the opportunity for a game plan heavy in 12 personnel or able to take advantage of underneath routes from the tight ends and running backs could help offset the loss.

Also, keep an eye on a sub-package of plays for third-round pick Jermaine Burton. He only has one reception all season – a 47-yard bomb in Week 2 – but Higgins’ absence and lack of production from Andrei Iosivas in recent weeks could open the door for Burton to make an impact.

Finally, the Bengals haven’t utilized the screen game to the same degree as they did last season, but Sunday could be the day to lean on Chase Brown and Zack Moss in that regard to find explosive plays against an aggressive Eagles front four.

Allen Lazard out for Jets vs. Pats

Jets inactives:

WR Allen Lazard

S Tony Adams

OL Alijah Vera-Tucker

DT Leki Fotu

S Ashtyn Davis

RB Izzy Abanikanda

OT Carter Warren

Lazard is having a nice resurgence with Aaron Rodgers at quarterback — 30 catches, 412 yards and five touchdowns in seven games, all improvements over his numbers form 2023 — even if he has struggled with drops. He’ll miss Sunday’s game with a chest injury which means the Jets will be using a heavy dose of wide receiver Mike Williams instead. Williams has been on the trade block since the Jets acquired Davante Adams but he hasn’t been especially productive as he and Rodgers have struggled to get in sync. Williams has 11 catches for 160 yards in 224 offensive snaps. In positive news: The Jets are getting back cornerbacks DJ Reed and Michael Carter II, though they’ll be without safeties Tony Adams and Ashtyn Davis, meaning Jalen Mills and Isaiah Oliver will start.
