Chamdo: the gate to eastern TibetChamdo, named 'Changdu' in Chinese language, is the first biggest city in eastern Tibet A.R.; to its north is the road to Yushu (Jyekundo) of Qinghai province, to its west is the way to Nakchu, to its east is the way to Dege and Ganzi of west Sichuan province, to its south is the road to Lhasa or Mangkang of Yunnan province. Chamdo is not opened to foriegn tourists in present days (now it is July 27th of 2008); but you can travel past Chamdo region by road either from Chengdu, Xining or Lijiang There are many interesting scenic spots, like Chajiema Hall, Qiangbalin monastery. There is one flight to Chamdo from Chengdu, 3 times in one week; but it is very hard to reserve the tickets.
