There are several roads to get to Lhasa from outside Tibet. If you enter from outside of China, you can travel to Lhasa from Kathmandu, which is also called "China-Nepal friendship Road". Another 4 routes are Kashgar to Lhasa (enter Tibet from its far west edge), Xining/Golmud to Lhasa, Xining/Jyekundo (Yushu) to Lhasa, Chengdu/Ganzi/Chamdo/Nakchu to Lhasa, Chengdu/Litang/Lake Ranwu to Lhasa and Lijiang/Zhongdian to Lhasa from north Yunnan. Among the adventure travel routes (overland to Lhasa).

It is hard to tell which is more fitable to one person; it depends on what you expect to feel

who hasn't been there before; generally speaking, Xining to Lhasa via Golmud and Lhasa to Kathmandu of Nepal via Mt. Everest are most popular among tourists who travel to Tibet from inland China and travel to Nepal by road after sightseeing in Lhasa area. By our expierence, the most chanlengable and impressive routes are Chengdu to Lhasa, Xining to Lhasa via Jyekundo Beyond others, adventure tours in Kham area are also very impressive; if your tour purpose is to discover those unfreqented area and feel Tibetan folklores, travel in Kham area (between east Tibet A.R., Northern Yunnan province, Southern Qinghai province and Western Sichuan province) is a very good choice; Kham is the re-incarnation place of Tibetan Buddhism after 9th century; there are many undiscovered beauties along the route Chengdu/Xining, Chengdu/Litang/Kunming and Xining/Jyekundo/Kunming.
