Ganzi Tibetan prefecture

Ganzi Tibetan prefecture is in the west of Sichuan province, to its west is Tibet A.R. (Xizang), to its north is Qinghai province, to its south is Yunnan province; and its total land area is 153,002 square kilometers,, on this vast area is populated over 900,000 people of 25 nationalities, among them, tibetans counts for 78.4 %.

its adminsatrative center is located in Kangding city, which is about 360 kilometers to the west of Chengdu city, the capital of Sichuan province; there are 18 counties under its admistration, they are, respectively,  kangding, danba, luhuo, jiulong, ganzi, yajiang, xinlong, daofu, baiyu, litang, dege, xiangcheng, shiqu, daocheng, batang, seda, luding and derong.

Ganzi prefecture is one of 5 pastoral areas in China, its natural grassland counts for 61.7% of its total land area; there are several big rivers flowing through here, they are Jinshajiang river, Yalong river, Dadu river.
