14 days overland tour from Xining to Lhasa through Chamdo and Basu

Xining - Yushu (Jyekundo) - Riwoche - Chamdo - Basu - Bomi - Bayi - Lhasa

Drive 25km to Ta'er monastery (located in Huangzhong county), it is the biggest monastery in Qinghai(of Gelupa order) which was the birth place of Chongkhaba (founder of Gelupa). In Xining city, visit the Dongguan Muslim temple (one of the 4 most famous Muslim temple in China).

Day02: Xining to Mardo

Meals: B/L/D

Enjoying and taking photos along the way. The Yellow River flows by Mardo town, the first bridge over Yellow river is at here.

Day03: Mardo to Yushu (Jyekundo)

Meals: B/L/D
Hotel: Yushu hotel or same level

Passing the Bayankhara mountains, at the pass, overlooking the vast valley below. Before arriving Yushu, visit the Xiewu monastery and its local houses; visit Daka monastery (of Kagyulpa) and Gyanha Mani gallet at Xinzhai village.

Day04: Yushu sightseeing

Meals: B/L/D

Visit Batang monastery (of Kagyulpa) at Batang village and the wide grassland. Every year the grand Yushu Kham horse racing festival will be held here. And visit the tem[ple for princess Wencheng and Gyiegu monastery (of Sakyapa).

There are a lot of forests in Langqian county, many Kagyulpa monasteries scattered in the forests. In history, Yushu area was the resurging place for Buddhism after the time of Tibetan king - Dhamo. At Nangqian, visit Longxhi monastery.

Day06: Nangqian to Riwuqi

Meals: B/L/D

Riwuqi and Dingchen counties are very important to Tibetan Buddhism, esp. for the Bon religion after its defeat in the Mid of 9th century (when it was defeated by Buddhism and lost its control over the royal family and Tibet). At Riwuqi, pay a visit to Chagyiema hall and Riwuqi monastery at old town of Riwuqi. The view in the new town (which is built by river in a valley) is charmful.

Day07: Riwuqi to Chamdo (110KM)

From Riwoche, we turn and drive eastward to Chamdo, the biggest city in eastern Tibet A.R.; at Chamdo, we do tour to Visit Chamdo monastery (Qiangbalin monastery) which is the biggest Gelupa monastery and the biggest one in the eastern Tibet, enjoys a high reputation among believers.

riverDay08: Chamdo to Bangdha airport to Basu town to Ranwu lake (340KM)

Driving about 165 KM further south is the famous Bangdha airport and Bangdha town, which lies at a strategic location (to the left of Bangdha town is road to Yunnan and Sichuan; to its west is road to Tibet and China/India Border. today on the way, there is no arranged scenic visit but natural landscape; sightseeing by Ranwu lake.

Day09: Ranwu lake to Bomi (130KM)

Meals: B/L/D
Hotel: Holy Eagle hotel or same level

After morning photo taking by the lake, driving downstream to Bomi, the scenery in and around Bomi town (Tsamu town) is typical subtropical weather. From the town, people can see exposing snow peaks.

Day10: Bomi to Lintse town to Bayi

Meals: B/L/D
Hotel: Holiday hotel or same level

Between Bomi town and Lintse town is famous Nanjiabawa snow peak, which is highest mountain peak among peaks over 7000 meters and also it is the highest peak in eastern Tibet highland. Before arriving in Bayi city, do tour to see Da Baishu (the 2550-yeal-old Cypress tree)

moutainDay11: Bayi to Lhasa (400KM)

Drive the final 400 kilometers to Lhasa city.

Day12: Lhasa sightseeing

Meals: B/L/D
Hotel: Kunlun Hotel or same level

In the morning, visit the grand - looking Potala Palace, which was built in the 7th century for the King. In the afternoon, visit Jokhang temple and stroll in the famous local bazaar - Parkhor street.

Day13: Lhasa sightseeing

Meals: B/L/D
Hotel: Kunlun Hotel or same level

Visit Tsepung monastery which is the biggest monastery in Tibet. Then visit Sera monastery and Norbulingka which can give you deep impression of Tibet arts and civilization.

Day14: Lhasa to your destination by air
