Required documents to travel to Tibet for non Chinese passports holders

Above all, Entry documents required

There are two documents required for foreign tourists who want to travel in Tibet:tibet entry permit to travel tibet
One is the Chinese Visa, which you can apply for in Chinese Embassy in your place.
The other is the Tibet entry Permit issued by Tibet Tourism Bureau; which covers two papers (1): Entry permit, on which your entry date, departure date and sightseeing places are marked; (2) the name list, on which the names and the number of tourists are specified; after issued, you cannot add any other person onto it.

Non-Chinese passport holders must have an valid Tibet entry Permit as well as a valid passport and a valid visa (Travelers from countries having visa exemption agreement with China do not need a visa) to visit Tibet.

Visa can be obtained from the local China consulate in your country. Since the government encourages group tours to Tibet, the permit is issued only to tour groups traveling with a Chinese tour operator (no matter what size the tour group is). Your travel agency will represent you to facilitate the application process.
