Required documents to travel to Tibet for non Chinese passports holdersAbove all, Entry documents requiredThere are two documents required for foreign tourists who want to travel in Tibet: Non-Chinese passport holders must have an valid Tibet entry Permit as well as a valid passport and a valid visa (Travelers from countries having visa exemption agreement with China do not need a visa) to visit Tibet. Visa can be obtained from the local China consulate in your country. Since the government encourages group tours to Tibet, the permit is issued only to tour groups traveling with a Chinese tour operator (no matter what size the tour group is). Your travel agency will represent you to facilitate the application process. The Tibet entry permit is not for sale seperate from the group quotation. Which people are free from permitsPeople from those countries which have visa exemption agreements with China do not require China People from Hong Kong and Maccau, who are not foreign passports holder and have HK or Maccau permenant residence cards are free from Tibet entry permit and millitary permits; if the person from Hong Kong and Maccau has local permenant reseidence card and in the same time, holding foreign passport, he or she is required to apply Tibet entry permit, millitary permit and Aliens' permit/ People from Taiwan region are still required to get a permit which is issued by Tibet Taiwan people association; when Taiwann tourists want to travel overland to Tibet, millitary documnets are required Tibe entry permit and the personal data for applying Tibet "visa"For the Tibet entry permit, It'll take us 4 - 7 days. The following details of the travelers are required for the processing of the visa:

Overland travel to Tibet either from Chengdu, Xining, Jyekundo, Kunmiing, Zhongdian and Golmud Visa Obtained in Katmandu --- this is special, please readVisa for Tibet can be obtained from the Chinese Embassy in Katmandu. Application has got to be made a minimum of 7 days before the commencement of the trip. Visa can be obtained by paying a surcharge up to 3 days before the trip departure date. Original passports are required for application of visa. The following details of the travelers are required to be submitted to the Chinese Embassy for the processing of the visa: name, nationality, passport number, sex, date of birth and profession along with one passport size photograph. Please note that visa for Tibet obtained elsewhere has still got to be endorsed by the Chinese Embassy in Katmandu. Regular visas for China are not valid for travel into Tibet from Nepal. Surcharge: A surcharge of US $ 40.00 on Tibet visa is applicable for British, Canadian, Belgian, Cameroon, Brazilian, Irish, French and Dutch Nationals. |
