Sakyadawa Festival

Sakyadawa is a special local festival in Tibet, which happens on the 15th day of the fourth month by Tibetan canlender. By Budhism scriptures, the day of the month was the day for Sakyamuni (the ancient India prnces ) to be born, the day for Sakyamuni to get Budhahood under the Bhodi trees, and the day for Sakyamuni to get Nirvanna.
On this day, people will walk in Lhangkhor, Parkhor and Linkkor for a lot of times to pay their homage to Budha. “LhangKhor” in local language means “inner walking route”, “Parkhor” means “middle walking route” and the “Linkhor” means “outer route”. The total lengh of the three route putting together is about 6500 metres. The “Lhangkhor” is located in Jokhang temple around the chamber where the Sakyamuni statue is worshipped.
In Sakyadawa festival, the three routes are crowded with pilgrims from all over the Tibetans inhabited area.
