Mt. Nyianchentangula

Nyianchentangula is one of the 3 main mountain ranges in Tibet highland, it runs 600km from the west to the east, the peak of it is 7162m, this mountain range serves as the watershed of two big water systems - the Yalu Zangbo river and the Nujiang river, dividing the Tibet highland into three large regions: North Tibet, South Tibet and the Southeast Tibet. Because of the crust movement (the Euro - Asia plate and the Indian Ocean plate), this area of Nyianchentangula mountains became fratured, folded and rose violetly, then forming the huge mountain range at an elevation of 6000m.

Around its peak (7162m) are serial of high peaks, they are seperateky arranged east - westward closely to each other at an altitude: 7111, 7117 and 7046 metres above sea level, and at the south end of this mountain range is Qongmu Gangri (7046m).

This peak (Peak of Nyianchentangula, 7162m) is about 240km to the north of Lhasa city, the meaning of the name of this mountain peak is “God of grassland”, to its north west is the famous sacred lake - Namtso, it was sain by legends that this lake was a female, and ws the wife of the God of Nyianchentangula. Every year, many pios pilgrims will come there to pay their homage to the God and the Goddess (Namtso lake).

The best time to climb the peak is from May through September, but the best of the best time is in May, June and in September.

The peak ws conquered in 1986, by Japan mountaineerers.
