Perkhor chode monastery Perkhor monastery, located at the Gyangtse town, about 265km to the west of Lhasa city (by old road), is famous for its giant monastery - style pagoda. This monastery style pagoda is about 39 metres high, from its outer shape, it can be called a pagoda, but from its function and inner part, it is in fact a monastery. This monastery was built in the 1427 when the struggle between all Budhism sects in Tibet was in a stalemate, Perkhor monastery was built as a sign of balance on power. So in it, there were several colleges which belonged to different sects, but now only the building of Gelu pa is still in functioning, the other two (Xalu sect and Sakya pa sect) had autamantically terminated their own function, and disappeared . Gyangtse was a heroic town in the history of Tibet against Foreign power's invasion. In 1903, the british soldiers, in order to have more interests from Tibet, and compete against Russia, invaded Tibet via Yardong town (a small town at the China southern border in Tibet region).
