Sakya monasterySakya monastery, located 150km to the west of Shigatse city, is the home monastery for Sakya - pa sect. Sakya monastery was devided, by a river named Zhongqu which flows through the small town, into two - the norther part and the southern part, the norther part had became into ruins, the southern part was also once damaged by fire. In 1970s, the monastery was damaged again in the China cultural revolution. Sakya monastery was located in a river valley, in late 13th and early 14thcentury, it was the political and religious capital of Tibet, with the support of Yuan dynasty, Sakya - pa established its own family rule over Tibet about 70 years - Historians call th local power at that time “the Sakya dynasty”. With the collapse of Yuan dynasty in China inland, the rule of Sakya - pa also gradually came to an end, and Sakya - pa power was gradually replaced by Parzhu Garjue government under the support of Ming dynasty. Sakya monastery was and is famous for its history deposit, its rich collection of all kinds of scripts on politics, on religion, on science.for his reason, Sakya monastery was called “the second Dunhuang”.
