Xialu monastery Xialu monastery, located 20KM the west of Shigatse city, which is the monastery of Xialu - sect among the different Tibetan Buddhism sects. This monastery was built in 1087 when China was in Song dynasty. Tthis was a specicial time for Buddhism's uprise, there was a historical and heavy impact to the developement of Buddhism in Tibet. In the Late of 9th century, because of the King Langdamo issued orders to destroy monasteries, Buddha statues, and any root of Buddhism, the preaching of Buddhism suffered a lot deep into the roots, so after that, almost in 200 years, no Budhism preaching in Tibet. In fact the construction of the Xalu announced the standup of Buddhism in central Tibet. This monastery combines the local Tibetan arts and the Chinese Hans's craftsship - the halls are in Tibet style, but the roof is in Chinese Han's style, this was and is a obvious mark from other monateries. This monastery was once damaged in fire, but with the finiancial and political support from Yuan royal family and court, it was rebuilt soon, and so, this monastery bears a lot of characters of builiding style of China in Yuan time. There are 4 treasures in it:the wooden makeup scripts boards (made up of 108 small pieces), the big branze jar, the slabstone with nature made six true words, and the rock washbasin (washbowl). Each has their own long story.
