Mt. EverestMt. Everest (8848.13m), the highest mountain in the world, is geographically located at the southern side of Shigatse prefecture. It is about 650km to the west of Lhasa city, and 350km to the east of Zhangmu town (a smal town at the China - Nepal border. The locals call it (Mt. Everest) Chomolangma, the meaning of it is “the 3rd goddess”. This huge mountain, shaped like a gigantic Pyramid and full of power and gandeur, towers into the sky, the snow line of the northern slope is 5800 - 6200 metres and that of the souther 6000 - 6100 metres. Around and in it are a lot of continental glaciers, totalling an area of 1457 square kilometres. Due to the high altitude and the complicated climate, it is hard to foretell the what the weather will be like in a single day. Around it are many world highest peaks, among which the fairly famous are Lhoze peak (the 4th one in the world, elevation: 8516m), and Zuoqong peak (elevation: 7589m) to the south side of Mt. Everest; Makaru peak (the 5th one, 8463m), Zhangzi peak (7453m), Kangchenjunga peak (the 3rd one, 8585m) Qowowugag peak (8201m), and Xixabangma peak (8026m). SEE DETAILS In Charter of Snow mountains.
