Xixabangma peakXixabangma peak, located to the southwest of Kukangri mountain range, about 120km to the west of Mt. Everest, is the 14th peak among those with an altitude over 8000m, and it is also the one only completely in China territory among mountains over 8000m. In Tibetan local language, “Xixabangma” stands for “Severe climate”. The Tibetan people produced many mythologies and folk songs to extol it as the auspicious and mythsterous peak. Xixabangma is made up of three sister peaks quite similar in height while two pinnacles with their respective hight of 8808m and 7966m sit 200 metres and 400 metres to the north west of the main peak. There are many fossils of sea stars have been found around here for many years, it tells us the story of the changes and harshness of the area. The climate of Xixabangma is quite close that of Mt. Everest. The best timingfor mountaineering activities come each year in April, May, September and October when in one mpunth, more than two nice days will be available two - three times and over three nice days one - two times at an internal of some 15 days. In 1964, the China mountaineering team succeeded to ascend to the top of Xixabangma. In 1981, in three batches, mountaineerers from New Zealand reached the Molamenqing peak, the east peak of Xixanabgma which has an altitude of 7705m. In 1982, a mountaineering team from Japan ascended to the top of Peak Gangpengqing (elevation 7292m), which is to the southwest of Xixabangma peak.
