Tombs of Tibet kings Tombs for the passed Tibetan kings before 9th century are located in the Tsang in the Yarlung valley, where the powerful Tubo dynasty stood up and ruled vast area. By legend, before the 7th king, all kings would go back to heaven after their death. The legend goes that the kings would go back by the rainbow, but when the 7th king was in power, he made a wrong decision to have a dual to one of his subordinates, and got killed after his link just behind his head (a invisible ladder) was cut off. Then from the 7th king on till Nhangdhamo (the last official king of Tubo dynasty), all kings were buried after their death at here, right in the valley. Among the tombs underneath, only 9 can be clearly recognized and told. They are: Songtsan Ganbu, Mongsongmang Tsan, Tsidusongtsan, Tsiderzhudan, Tsisong Dertsan, Tsisong Dertsan, Moni Tsanbu, Tsider Songtsan, Tsizhu Dertsan and Nangdhmo. (Click here to view how the tombs arranged) Among the 9 tombs, the biggest tomb is to King Songtsan Ganbu, which has a length: 140m and a width: 140m and a height: 13.4m, on its top is built a small temple (after it was built, some families were put here, and their duty was to take care of the tombs for their kings). Inside the temple worship the statues of King Songtsan Ganbu, Princess Wencheng, Princess Tsizun, his subordinaters; Gar Ludongtsan and Tunmi Sangbutsa. According to the historical records, statue of this King, Sakyamini and Compassion Buddha were arranged inside underneath and the gold armours, gold horses and wrriors were also buried for accompany.
